Since switching to organic, natural skincare last August to reduce my toxic load, I have been enjoying trying different brands and finding what works and what doesn’t work with my skin. Organic, natural skincare is expensive and therefore I feel I have to fall really in love with a product for me to continue to invest in it. My boyfriend and I love supporting local businesses – we get our meat, eggs and veggies from the Cornish Food Box company and shop at a local very small cornish pet shop. So I thought it would be a good idea to try out the locally made, natural & organic skincare here in Cornwall. Organic Terverno and Beyond Organic Skincare were kind enough to send me some goodies to try and report back to you on what I thought.
Organic Trevarno Rose and Jojoba Moisturiser (day cream) & Overnight Replenishing Cream – both £14.50 for 30ml
I cannot speak highly enough of these two beautiful moisturisers! I am totally obsessed with them. The Rose & Jojoba Moisturiser is quite luxurious for a day cream which I love, I cannot stand thin watery face creams; and it has a gorgeous subtle floral scent from the rosewater. My skin is left feeling nourished throughout the day so it is perfect for dryer skin types like mine.
The Overnight Replenishing Cream is even better, I can’t find any fault with this product!! It’s rich, incredibly moisturising and smells dreamy of lavender, frankincense and rosewood. My boyfriend loves the smell too and often compliments me when I have used it. Both creams come in small pots so I assumed I’d get through them very quickly, but I’ve hardly made a dent in them as you need so little. I’m used to using huge quantities of creams on my face in order for it to feel moisturised so it’s been a nice change and shows just how great the quality of the products are!
Rose & Jojoba Cleansing Oil – £21 for 100ml, and Organic Trevarno Sweet Orange & Vanilla Body Oil – £13.50 for 100ml
Again I don’t really have a bad thing to say about either of these products. This is the first time I have tried a cleansing oil – I usually use cream cleansers – but I don’t think I’ll ever use anything else from now on. I can’t really report back on how well the Rose & Jojoba Cleansing Oil removed make up as I don’t really wear it at the moment, but it does a fab job of getting rid of ‘the day’. With just a small amount in the palm of my hand, I work the product into my skin and eyes, and then using a wet muselin or flannel I gently remove it, and it doesn’t leave a greasy residue, just super smooth, hydrated skin.
I love the sweet fruity scent of the Sweet Orange & Vanilla Body Oil. It’s not an overpoweringly sweet scent like a lot of body butters I’ve tried, it’s subtle and very light. You just pour the oil into your palms and rub into your skin; I’ve been using this all over and my skin is already really feeling the benefits! I have incredibly dry skin all over, so I do get through all body care products very quickly and this is no exception. So although I really love it, it may be worth me looking to find a slightly less expensive body oil for the amount that I need. That being said I would wholeheartedly recommend this product and it’s great for sensitive skin!
Beyond Organic Skincare Gentle Facial Exfoliator – £6 for 4ml, Regenerating Night Cream – £12.75 for 15ml & Top to Toe Body Butter – £25.55 for 50ml (all from their Seabuckthorn range)
I really like the selection of products I tried from the Seabuckthorn range. I chose each of the items to suit my skin type and they didn’t disappoint.
The Regenerating Night Cream is luxurious and moderately thick, but very easy to rub into the skin and a little goes a long way. It contains yarrow and rosehip that help tackle premature ageing and reduce the appearance of wrinkles (which is great as I am starting to get a few wrinkles now), sea buckthorn to rebuild skin tissue and omega oils to help skin retain its elasticity. I wake up in the morning my skin still feels so smooth and soft.
The Gentle Facial Exfoliator is lovely too. Its made with lots of lovely oils including coconut and macadamia oils and beeswax so it’s very hydrating (which I wouldn’t normally expect from an exfoliator) – after exfoliating and washing it off, my skin feels moisturised as its held onto the oils. Despite this, I am not sure this product is suited for my skin as I need a harsher exfoliator to remove the very dry flakey skin on my face. But I think it would be perfect for those who just want to incorporate a very gentle exfoliator into their skincare routine.
The Top To Toe Body Butter is a wonder product – I have used it for so many different things and have quite liteterally used it from top-to-toe. I’ve used it on my cracked feet, chapped lips, on the dryer patches of my face, and as an all over body moisturiser! It has anti-ageing, anti-viral antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties so it can also be used for eczema and other skin conditions as well as a barrier balm for hay fever sufferers (just apply inside nostrils), can you believe! It’s just a wonderfully soothing, intense moisturiser and has a lovely vanilla scent – it really feels like it is hydrates, replenishes and repairs the skin! I will definitely be repurchasing this as soon as it runs out!!
Beyond Organic Skinare Naturally Fresh Crystal Deodorant 50ml £8
This is the best natural deodorant I have tried so far! The deodorant I was using prior to this actually made me smell a lot worse than if I hadn’t put anything on – that was Schmidt’s Natural Deodorant Bergamot + Lime. Natural deodorants that actually work are really hard to come by. Because I can’t shower every day due to fatigue, it needs to keep odour at bay for longer than it would for the average person too which can be tricky. This one is really easy to apply, drys quickly, and is scent free when on the skin. I usually apply this twice a day (but you probably wouldn’t need to do this in the colder months) and that does the job well. I would repurchase this depending on how long the product ends up lasting for.
