When I came back home to Cornwall in early June, one of the first things I wanted to do (when my health would allow) was visit my favourite Cornish gem – Potager Gardens & Glasshouse Cafe – and we’ve been back a couple of times since! Despite autumn drawing in, I wanted to share this little summertime retreat with you as it really is something very special!

Potager is in the middle of nowhere in Constantine (about 20 mins from Falmouth) only to be found along windey Cornish roads where you don’t see a car for minutes at a time. It was once an abandoned plant nursery/greenhouse but it was bought and done up and is now a relaxing and beautiful haven and cafe. The gardens really are something else – I’ve never seen so many beautiful wild flowers all in one place and there is a huge vegetable patch with an abundance of colourful fruit and vegetables! There’s even chickens on site too. The food in the cafe is grown on site, vegetarian, organic and absolutely delicious! We always go for a frittata and meze plate to share :) They even sometimes do gluten AND dairy free cakes!

The atmosphere at Potager is like nowhere else I’ve found since being poorly. It’s incredibly calm, relaxing and peaceful. There are hammocks and deck chairs to snooze in and games to play for those who want it. Paddy likes to play table tennis which is in an indoor garden within a very large greenhouse! I prefer to have a rest with lots of blankets and cushions. This is the perfect place for a spoonie (chronically ill person) to come for a few hours, have a lovely lunch lunch and a lie down amongst at nature :) I recommend it to anyone who needs tranquility and calm. I love the hippie vibe and that you can take dogs too. Copper loved playing amonsts the flowers!

Most of Potager is wheelchair accessible – the garden is accessible by stoned paths. It is open Friday-Sunday from March-October usually but this year its open until December 6th!

P.s look how tiny Copper was in these pics – they were taken back in June not long after we first got him!

I’ve heard about this garden and cafe from a few different people but have never been there myself. We planned on visiting this summer, but never quite made it. Good to see your photos and recommendation – we really must try and find the time.

You should definitely pay Potager a visit, it’s so beautiful and relaxing! It’s open until the beginning of December so theres still time if you’re down this way before then :)
